 - Swear That You\'ll Play
Published on the occasion of the forty-year anniversary of Chantal Crousel Gallery, this extensive publication (more than 700 pages) traces the history of the gallery, a major actor on the contemporary art scene, in France and abroad.
Jure-moi de jouer reviews the history of all exhibitions showcased at the Chantal Crousel Gallery since 1980. It features a hundred page conversation between Philippe Vergne, Chantal Crousel and Niklas Svennung, and also includes two critical texts, by Patricia Falguières and Alexandre Costanzo, as well as a very wide selection visual archives. This publication shares the opportunity to highlight the strong relationship between the gallery and its artists.
Since it was established in 1980, Chantal Crousel Gallery has been revealing and accompanying the work of artists of highly diverse origin to the French and international art world of collectors and institutions.
These artists share in common the exploration and the translation into original expressions of the essential values that underlie contemporary society. Each of them draws from their particular cultural heritage to develop their direction and a visual language that is both powerful and universal. The majority of these artists are now present in the most important collections.
Artists who exhibited at Chantal Crousel Gallery include: Marina Abramović, Absalon, Bas Jan Ader, Jennifer Allora, Darren Almond, Rasheed Araeen, Nobuyoshi Araki, John Armleder, Richard Artschwager, Tarek Atoui, Sylvie Auvray, John Baldessari, Luciano Bartolini , Lothar Baumgarten, Ben, Bernadette Corporation, Karina Bisch, Irma Blank, Alighiero Boetti, Christian Boltanski, Troy Brauntuch, George Brecht, Marcel Broodthaers, Susanne Bürner, Jean-Marc Bustamante, James Lee Byars, John Cage, Sophie Calle, Marc Camille Chaimowicz, Claire Fontaine, Robert Combas, Isabelle Cornaro, Tony Cragg, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Enzo Cucchi, Roberto Cuoghi, Keren Cytter, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, David Douard, Dr Lakra, Marcel Duchamp, Lili Dujourie, James Ensor, Max Ernst, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Robert Filliou, Peter Fischli, Alain Fleischer, Alberto García-Alix, Frank Gehry, Isa Genzken, Jochen Gerz, Gilbert & George, Jack Goldstein, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Rodney Graham, Wade Guyton, Fabrice Gygi, Rachel Harrison, Mona Hatoum, Thomas Hirschhorn, Carsten Höller, Karl Holmqvist, Jenny Holzer, Marine Hugonnier, Pierre Huyghe, Cameron Jamie, Mike Kelley, John Kelsey, Hassan Khan, Martin Kippenberger, Yves Klein, Jutta Koether, Jeff Koons, Joseph Kosuth, Michael Krebber, Thierry Kuntzel, Gabriel Kuri, Louise Lawler, Sherrie Levine, Klara Lidén, Glenn Ligon, Richard Long, Robert Longo, Robert Malaval, Gordon Matta-Clark, Nick Mauss, Allan McCollum, Bruce McLean, Annette Messager, Olivier Mosset, Jean-Luc Moulène, Matt Mullican, Bruce Nauman, Melik Ohanian, Ken Okiishi, Claes Oldenburg, Henrik Olesen, Meret Oppenheim, Gabriel Orozco, Damián Ortega, Virginia Overton, Gina Pane, Michel Parmentier, Manfred Pernice, Raymond Pettibon, Elizabeth Peyton, Francis Picabia, Sigmar Polke, Seth Price, Richard Prince, Josephine Pryde, Tobias Rehberger, Clément Rodzielski, Tim Rollins & K.O.S., Willem de Rooij, Thomas Ruff, Anri Sala, Yorgos Sapountzis, Tomoko Sauvage, Thomas Schütte, Kurt Schwitters, Alain Séchas, Jim Shaw, Cindy Sherman, Jana Sterbak, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Rosemarie Trockel, Oscar Tuazon, TzaraTristan, Daan Van Golden, Bill Viola, Danh Vo, Andy Warhol, Lawrence Weiner, David Weiss, Franz West, Christopher Williams, Haegue Yang, Rémy Zaugg, Heimo Zobernig...
