Flying ColorsA Dialogue with the Collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Art

 - Flying Colors
A transatlantic dialogue between the complementary collections of the Mia and the MAMC+ that traces, through more than 100 works by some 40 artists, key milestones in American art from 1950 to the present.
The catalog for the exhibition Flying Colors is designed to bring together the two American art collections of the MIA (Minneapolis Institute of Art) and the MAMC+ (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Saint-Étienne Métropole), with more than 100 works presented side by side in a spirit of dialogue. Following the exhibition's itinerary, in a presentation that gives ample space to illustrations, it explores the complex trajectories of American art from the 1950s onward through the complementary nature of these two collections.
The book opens with an essay by Aurélie Voltz, curator of the exhibition and director of the museum. It highlights the dialogue between the collections of the Mia and the MAMC+, and offers an interpretation of American art, the networks of social interaction and influence between the United States and France, as well as transatlantic friendships. It is followed by an essay by Zoé Marty, curator of the MAMC+ collections, on the development of the American art collection—which is today one of the largest in France—tracing major acquisitions and exhibitions.
The significant works are accompanied by some thirty entries that accompany largeformat reproductions.
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at the Musée d'art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC+) in 2026-2027.
