Get out/Stay away/Come backA propos de sculpture et de la sculpture en œuvre

Richard Nonas - Get out/Stay away/Come back
Artist's writings.
"This book is a drawing.
A drawing is a jungle bridge, a last-second temporary bridge. It is desperate attempt to jump the widening gaps between more permanently sited ideas or works.
This book is a drawing. It is a drawing of what sculpture and its making are. It is a drawing of what sculpture can do, what it is for, what its power and limits should be. It is a drawing of the gap between ideas, and the things we make because of them. It is a drawing of the gap between a world and our views of it. It is a drawing of crossings attempted ; spans holding and collapsing. It is a drawing of that repetitive process.
This book, I mean to say, is a drawing of how bridges fail. It is a drawing of re-building and repeated failure. This book is a drawing of how repetition becomes art ; how failure becomes sculpture. It is a drawing of how sculptures caps a volcanicly unstable world.
This book is a drawing of sculpture's cultural use."

"I see this book as something unique, direct, a work of art, a sort of sculpture. Aside from a collection of writings over twenty-five years, it composes a whole immediate perception as a whole."
