One head too many / Une tête en trop / Ein Kopf zu viel

Élise Florenty & Marcel Türkowsky - One head too many / Une tête en trop / Ein Kopf zu viel
Trilingual monograph investigating five film-projects by the French-German duo. The publication features a series of essays and a high-quality photographic documentation.
Dissected into five colours in motion—all at once skin, gesture, word, voice—this first trilingual monograph by Élise Florenty and Marcel Türkowsky focuses on five film-projects investigating different layers of consciousness and power relations that blur the modern boundaries between the animate and the inanimate, the verbal and the non-verbal, the dream and the awake state. Each project unfolds minor situations in marginal zones—from Mississippi to the Aegean Sea, Brazil to Japan and Eastern Ukraine where the human and the nonhuman—an imaginary river, an amazonian parrot, a speaking cactus plant or cannibal electrons—often meet to bring back “social-utopic” experiments and the part of future that seems to have been buried with them.
Published on the occasion of the exhibition “Inter-passion,” Grimmuseum, Berlin, from February 4 to March 18, 2017.
Since 2009, Élise Florenty (born 1978 in Pessac, France) Marcel Türkowsky (born 1978 in East-Berlin, Germany) are working together as artists/filmmaker duo, exploring the multiplicity of the self through a spiral of metamorphoses that interrogate our power relation—always shifting—to the Other. Major exhibitions include: “Through Somnambular Laws”, Le Plateau Paris, “How To Awaken The Spectrum In Between”, Izolyatsia Foundation, “A Walking Paradox”, Kinderhook & Caracas, Berlin, “Hostipitalite”, Iselp Brussels, “Void of Memory”, PLATFORM Seoul, “Wheels of Memory”, La Synagogue de Delme, “Life Ticket”, Les Églises art centre, “Color Blind In Eight Crises”, CAC Passages, Troyes, among others. Their work has been showcased both in art venues and international Film Festivals such as FID Marseille, Centre Pompidou – Hors Pistes, IFF Rotterdam, DocLisboa, Torino Film Festival, Ann Arbor FF, EMAF, CCCB Barcelona, MAF Tokyo, BERWICK, FIC Valdivia, NFF London, CAPC Bordeaux, MAMCO Geneva, Palais de Tokyo Paris, Crédakino d'Ivry, Passerelle – Centre d'art contemporain Brest, CAC Vilnius, Muzeum Sztuki Łódź, La Triennale di Milano, MATADERO Madrid, Museu da Repùblica, Rio De Janeiro, among others.
