Royden Rabinowitch -
A renewed approach to the history of sculpture and post-minimalism, based on the Royden Rabinowitch collection at MAMCO.
The Royden Rabinowitch collection is one of the most important bodies of works by a single artist in MAMCO's holdings. Comprised of nearly 40 steel sculptures, as well as drawings and paintings, it introduces the viewer to the scope of Rabinowitch's work and its radical nature—a post-minimalist art that is open to multiple interpretations and is highly referential, especially in connection with mathematics and geometry. This volume gives the reader the keys to an understanding of Rabinowitch's sculptural vision and takes a fresh look at this art form through constructions that are at once complex and minimal.
Royden Rabinowitch is a Canadian sculptor born 1943 in Toronto. His work, influenced by the writings of the mathematician Henri Poincaré, relates in part to minimalism, of which its contests, however, a number of expectations.
