Erling Kagge - Walking
The intersection of walking and collecting.
Erling Kagge, the world-renowned Norwegian explorer and art collector, attributes particular importance to the walks that took him first toward and then away from the artworks he wanted and was eager to own. The intersection of walking and collecting guides WALKING. Movements North of Bolzano, an exhibition organized by Museion and curated by the collector. The publication that accompanies it emerges from an expository journey that, following an allegory of hiking, carries readers from Oslo to Bolzano. Stops along the way at different thematic stations, each one focused on a specific genre, artistic medium, or subject, reveal the unique attitude that the two walkers—Erling Kagge and Museion—share.

“Feet are capable of understanding and thinking things even before the head grasps them. So, in this sense, we can receive answers to questions we aren’t aware of having asked.”—Erling Kagge
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at Museion, Bolzano, in 2020-2021.
Erling Kagge (born 1963) is an art collector and a renowned Norwegian polar explorer, the first to have successfully completed the “Three Poles Challenge” (reaching the North Pole, the South Pole and the summit of Mount Everest) and to reach the South Pole alone and unassisted.
