This posthumous work is the first monograph devoted to the Franco-Palestinian artist and activist Amal Abdenour.
The publication fulfils Amal Abdenour's final wishes, as she had designated the Enseigne des Oudin – Fonds de dotation as her universal legatee. Its creation evolved over time: first through many visits to her studio in Nogent-sur-Marne before her hospitalization, then through conversations, and finally through an in-depth study of her archives and body of work, the uniqueness of which is fully captured in the book.
Amal Abdenour (1931–2020) was a Franco-Palestinian artist and feminist activist. Born in Nablus (Palestine) to a family from Haifa, she studied at the Zamalek School of Fine Arts (Cairo, Egypt) and later at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Considered one of the pioneers of "Copy Art" in France, she began her self-portrait series using black-and-white electrography in 1970 and color electrography in 1974.
Her work, at the intersection of forced exile, militant commitment, and plastic radicality, unfolds with raw power. She plays with deformations, shifts, and slippages, embracing constant risk through her luminous installations, mineral environments, and book projects inspired by the Middle East.
Of these ephemeral creations and installations, only archives remain today—testimonies to her solar dynamism and boundless energy, both in her life as an activist and in her art.
