George Brecht (1926-2008) was an American conceptual artist and avantgarde composer. Originally trained as a chemist, his work engages with concepts from the fields of both art and science, with a strong interest in matters such as chance and paradoxes. He studied with John Cage at the New School for Social Research and is one of the main figures of the Fluxus movement. He is well known for his sculptural compositions of everyday objects and for his events based on written instructions, the event scores.
