La Gricole et ses dérives

Daniel Nadaud - La Gricole et ses dérives
A retrospective monograph, La Gricole et ses dérives brings together fifty years (1970-2020) of Daniel Nadaud's pathways, loops, advances, drawings, sculptures, installations and notebooks, shaped by the presence of the agricultural world, by history and fragments of childhood.
La Gricole, a "generic" term (play on words from L'Agricole) that qualifies the entirety of the artist's production, is drawn as closely as possible from the land of laborers, their tools and their domestic animals, confronted from the beginning of time by natural disasters and wars. By discovering and using this term, during a conversation with the writer and poet Pierre Giquel, Daniel Nadaud discovered a field of reflection, freedom and play ; by means of fragments picked up here and there, live and fragmentary traces of our History.
The book brings together a representative set of works (sculptures, installations, drawings) but also sketch books, many of which have just been donated to the Bibliothèque nationale de France. This collection of more than a hundred pieces allows us to follow the evolution of the artist's work through different contexts of presentation. The reader is invited to take a chronological walk from the sculptures to the his most recent drawings.
This bilingual French/English edition also sheds theoretical light on Daniel Nadaud's work through the writings of two curators, Benoît Decron and Cécile Pocheau-Lesteven, a posthumous text by the writer, poet and critic Pierre Giquel, as well as an interview between the artist and the art critic Éva Prouteau.
