On the sense and non-sense of still being alive

Raphaël Cendo - On the sense and non-sense of still being alive
An essay by the French composer that provides some perspective on his musical concepts and formulates his vision of music and society.
In 2020, during the first global lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Raphaël Cendo felt the necessity to write—not music, but a text providing some perspective on his concepts in these unprecedented times.
This sudden isolation offered him the opportunity and time to work on his concepts and his analysis, with a view to formulating his vision of music and society.
While artists were spreading themselves all over the media and the social networks, destroying all possibility of thought through this atomization, Raphaël Cendo chose to remain in a position of introspection and observation.
Raphaël Cendo (born 1975 in Nice) is a French composer. His music tends towards excess and saturation. He sculpts from crude masses and extracts complex sounds. Energy from the performers themselves puts this sound matter into a state of tension through a blending of timbres and a contrast of forms.
