Rooted Flows

Destroyers/Builders - Rooted Flows
This book is dedicated to the work of Destroyers/Builders (Linde Freya Tangelder), as part of a series of monographs on the thought and work of young contemporary designers.
The work of Destroyers/Builders, utterly contemporary but with stylistic references that in some cases derive from a modernist imaginary, is driven by observation of human interactions with inhabitable spaces, and by a critical-formal interpretation of the ideal-typical geometry of making architecture.
Illustrated by a rich photographic series, the book presents the results of Tangelder's creative thought through some selected projects; written by Barbara Brondi & Marco Rainò, the volume recounts the experience of the Design Residency inspired by the theme "Rooted Flows" Destroyers/Builders was the protagonist of, which is part of the broader project IN Residence, a research program dedicated to design that has elaborated new reflections in the field of education and training, as well as in the support and promotion of creative talent, through an intense and recognized activity.<
Destroyers/Builders is a Brussels & Antwerp based design studio, founded in 2014 by Linde Freya Tangelder. Within the works of Destroyers/Builders an interaction between the furniture pieces exist in an overarching inspiration; found in architectural elements, materials or building techniques. Linde Freya Tangelder strives for sensory relevance and cultural value in detail and larger scale. The works have a sculptural and architectural character, and balance between contemporary and traditional elements.
Inspired by architectural shapes, the furniture pieces highlight the field between industry and human, through diverse materials. Constructions are scaled down to human sizes, and translations result into sculptural gestures. Both low and high end materials get revalued, reconsidered and transformed. The interventions and finishes by hand, give these architectural objects a tactile aspect. The contrast in materials, the touchability, and the human traces that are still visible in the object, explain the method of Destroyers/Builders.
Destroyers/Builders takes on projects that range from commissions to self-initiated projects, and extends across the realms of both architectural furniture and interior projects.
