Sylvain Croci-Torti, Pauline Piguet - SCT-PP
Artist's book exploring the notion of rigor in experimentation through the constraints of the grid and structure.
Initiated in September 2014 by the artist Sylvain Croci-Torti and the graphic designer Pauline Piguet this book is the result of four years of exchanges and (attempted) meetings. Using a specific technique that he developed himself, Sylvain Croci-Torti creates monochromes. Pauline Piguet is interested in the notion of rigour, particularly present in Swiss design, and chooses to explore its limits. Rigour, but also the importance of the grid and structure, rigidity and the desire to experiment are all aspects that Sylvain and Pauline are fond of in their work and that they have used to set up the protocol for the production of this publication.
Born 1984 in Monthey, Sylvain Croci-Torti lives and works between Lausanne and Martigny. Informed by the Swiss tradition of geometric abstraction and monochrome—from Olivier Mosset, John M Armleder, Christian Floquet to Francis Baudevin, Philippe Decrauzat, and Stéphane Dafflon—as well as by a decisive interest in the relationships between painting and architecture—i.e. how we perceive and experience two-dimensional works in three-dimensional environments—Croci-Torti is building a cogent body of works dealing with and renewing the eternal parameters of painting—colors, forms, proportions, perspectives, and structures.
He graduated from ECAL in 2013.
