Bringing together more than 350 works from the Centre Pompidou, Kanal, and numerous Belgian public and private collections, the publication traces a journey from the early twentieth century to the present day.
Structured around three interconnected movements, the book examines migration, exchange, and transformation through the work of artists such as
Lygia Clark, Sonia Delaunay, Natalia Goncharova,
Alberto Giacometti, Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, Wifredo Lam,
Sammy Baloji,
Francis Alÿs,
Edith Dekyndt, and Hana Miletić. By placing historical and contemporary works in dialogue, it sheds new light on the circulation of people, ideas, and artistic forms across geographies and generations.

Marta Dziewańska is a curator and writer based in Bern. She is currently Curator at Kunstmuseum Bern and previously served as Head of Research at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, where she worked from 2007 to 2018. In 2017, she was a curatorial advisor for documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel. Dziewańska has curated numerous international exhibitions and edited widely acclaimed publications on modern and contemporary art. Her research and writing focus on transnational artistic exchanges, performance, and the social and political dimensions of art.
