"Here and There is a quiet and insistent revolution, it celebrates a life filled with beauty, wonder and magic, not as something distant and unattainable, but as something that is abundantly present around us if we allow our tender heart to welcome that what is vibrantly alive."
Pascale Gatzen

Here and There is an independent Japanese magazine created by editor and writer Nakako Hayashi, a longtime contributor to Purple and a thoughtful voice in Tokyo's creative scene. Since launching the magazine in 2002, Hayashi has used it as a personal platform to explore everyday life, art, fashion, and craft through a poetic, open-ended lens. Each issue brings together artists, writers, and thinkers in a gentle, meandering conversation that values sincerity over spectacle. Rooted in observation and care, Here and There offers readers a quiet space for reflection—an invitation to notice the beauty of what surrounds us.
This book combines every page of Here and There Vol.1 – Vol.13.5, all designed by Kazunari Hattori, in a single volume. It offers a rare chance to experience the full arc of Nakako Hayashi's thoughtful publishing project. With countless contributions from Susan Cianciolo, Pascale Gatzen, Mark Borthwick, Yukinori Maeda, Takashi Homma, Anne Daems, Mike Mills, Kim Gordon, Elein Fleiss, Cosmic Wonder, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Bless, and many others, it stands as both a creative archive and a lasting expression of cross-disciplinary dialogue.
