My Cities

Laure Tixier - My Cities
This artist's book presents a selection of drawings with water colours on paper, one of five series produced by Laure Tixier (born in 1972 in Clermont-Ferrand) between 1996 and 2007.
These colourful daydreams on the theme of dwellings, architecture, and city-planning sometimes borrow their codes of representation, inviting us to grasp the latent content of major architectural utopias, plus the fantasy and multi-facettedness of models governing any utopian project (right down to the most ordinary humdrum thing, like the noise made by a ball falling from an automatic distributor: Gacha Gacha, 2006-2007).
The pencil and water colour technique, its precision, the possibilities it holds in terms of the notation and understanding of an urban architectural project, or any other kind, along with the format and choice of a stiff cover, conjure up the notebooks filled with drawings and jottings of those 19th century.
Implicitly, this is an invitation to travel in time and space, and make a renewed reading of our daily round (Broderies: ma ville, mon quartier, mon immeuble [Embroideries: My City, My Neighbourhood, My Building], 2007): like the architect and the artist, travellers in all times, setting out to discover this “planetary garden” (Gilles Clément).
Each series is accompanied by a short notice written by Laure Tixier, introducing the idea underpinning its development.
