Mamadou Diouf is Professor of History and African Studies at the Departments of History and Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies at Columbia University, New York.

Maureen Murphy is an art historian, Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Art History at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, member of the Institut Universitaire de France. Her research focuses on the globalization of the art scene from the perspective of relations between Africa and Europe, as well as the history of primitivism, exhibition and biennials policies. She is the author of De l'imaginaire au musée – Les arts d'Afrique à Paris et à New York (1931-2006) (Les presses du réel).
