Shake the Riverbed is an ambitious publication by the artist duo mountaincutters, offering an in-depth insight into their multidisciplinary practice. After ten years of intensive research, with nearly one hundred presentations in Belgium and abroad, the need arose to bring this work together—not as a closed archive, but as a living document that forges new connections between media, collaborations, and exhibitions.
mountaincutters (born in 1990) is a hybrid identity, a collective of artists working in Brussels. Their practice focuses on in situ sculpture and explores the connection between human beings and the environments they inhabit. Their steel structures, glass elements, ceramics, fabrics and organic materials, as well as their poems and copper circuits, form temporary ecosystems in which energy circulates between the human, the organic and the inanimate.
