Espace art actuel # 142, focusing on the theme of "prophecies" in contemporary artistic practices.
Artistic prophecies are unprecedented perspectives that open up gaps in time to break down the obvious and question the order of things. Artists have swapped grand utopias for fragmented, sensitive and situated visions. Their inquisitive gaze and their expressive practices reveal a future that can be glimpsed (and shaped) in the present through images, dreams and nature. They thus take over from oracles, sibyls, prophets and shamans, at once in tune with reality and slightly out of step with it, a positioning that lends a particular acuity to their rereading of the world. The current issue, Prophecies, gathers articles concerning the languages of art for imagining or foreseeing the future, the rituals employed to rewrite history, and the very notion of belief.
Founded in 1987 in Montreal, led by André-Louis Paré since 2013, Espace art actuel is an essential bilingual magazine for the promotion of contemporary art in the field of sculpture, installation and all other art forms associated with the notion of spatiality.
