A card game designed by Matthieu Raffard and Mathilde Roussel to play, think, and create together, designed to help artists and researchers break through barriers in their research and creative work!
This is a card game for artists, researchers, and anyone else interested in engaging in research and/or creative production.
It comprises 56 bilingual (English/French) cards which present ACTIONS (gestures of investigation), IDEAS (concepts to employ), and REACTIONS (modes of knowledge-sharing). If you're experiencing a block in your research, unsure which artistic direction to take, or wondering how best to share your work: these cards can help!
The game may be played in a group or individually. It offers a divination tool which may be used in seminars, exhibitions, projects in progress, or socially among friends. These cards instantly free participants' imagination—both theoretically and practically. Each draw of a card encourages players to try out new methods of investigation, formulate counterintuitive hypotheses, and envisage surprising methods of knowledge-sharing with the help of evocative images and an explanatory leaflet. Simply draw three cards and, by association of ideas, a solution appears, almost effortlessly.
The game can also be used in an educational context for explorations with students into possible ways of combining artistic expression and research work. In this context, the game serves as a playful way to teach research-creation methodologies.
Raffard-Roussel brings together artists Matthieu Raffard and Mathilde Roussel in the same working environment. Together, they attempt to explain how our digital technologies work, investigate the future of our planet, and invent new ecological imaginaries.
