Joints of Eastern Europe

Natasha Krymskaya - Joints of Eastern Europe
A selection of photographs and architectural drawings of "joints" from Eastern Europe gathered and reinterpreted by Natasha Krymskaya, as part of a research project into architectural practices and craft culture.
Joints of Eastern Europe represents a long-standing tradition of resourceful craftsmanship rooted in a region historically associated with manual labor. The joints symbolize the hands that have shaped much of Europe, embodying contextualist resilience and an instinctive problem-solving approach that reflects the identity and empiricism of both the joints themselves and of the workers. Visually distinct, the joints are powerful markers of Eastern European culture and corresponding inventive solutions born from everyday necessity. This unique form of craftsmanship is characterized by spontaneous, often temporary solutions that, over time, transform into enduring fixtures—fixtures that, with their rough elegance and structural creativity, inspire architects and engineers in both beauty and functionality.
CAMP (founded by Natasha Krymskaya) is collaborative architectural practice, focused on material culture, technologies and space research. It explores migrating notions within culture: everyday practices and emerging space strategies.
