Seigneur de guerre

Étienne Pottier - Seigneur de guerre
Étienne Pottier presents his ceramic work—a gallery of warlike masks that stare us down with their empty gazes.
Étienne Pottier (born 1983, lives and works in Paris) is a photographer and printmaker. After getting his start in the independent graphic novel scene, he turned to photography, then returned to drawing by setting up a printmaking studio, and eventually discovered ceramics, which he has been passionately pursuing ever since.
Étienne Pottier evokes a dark and whimsical world, inspired by classical and contemporary artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Peter Doig, and Damien Deroubaix, where dark romanticism, pagan spirituality, and a social interpretation of modernity—which seems to reenact the world's timeless attachment to symbols—intermingle: punk imagery rubs shoulders with bikers, weapons, dogs, and nudity.
