Samplerman

French comic book artist Yvan Guillo (aka Yvang, born in 1971) creates a parallel body of work under the name Samplerman. Using comic book pages gathered online from libraries' digital collections, he dismembers, cuts up, and reassembles them. Surprising elements—figures, texts, but also details so precise they become mysterious, textures—are reassembled to create new pages. These collages offer an opportunity to revisit the mechanics of the comic strip itself: compositions, the use of panels, the relationship to line work and abstraction, and so on.
