SoufflesCahier du Cirva

 - Souffles
The new wave of French and international design: an account of research on the glass vase conducted at the International Research Center for Glass and Plastic Arts, showcasing the work of the ten designers who were awarded the grand prize in the Design Parade Hyères competition, organized each year by the Villa Noailles.
Jean-Baptiste Fastrez, Brynjar Sigurðarson, Julie Richoz, Mathieu Peyroulet Ghilini, Laura Couto Rosado, Samy Rio, Pernelle Poyet, Carolien Niebling, Sara de Campos, and Gregory Granados are ten leading figures in the new wave of French and international design. As the grand prize finalists of the Design Parade Hyères competition hosted by the Villa Noailles, these ten designers were granted a one-year residency at the Centre international de recherche sur le verre et les arts plastiques (Cirva), where they each created a glass vase. They are featured in the summer 2021 exhibition Souffles – 10 designers. 10 ans. 10 vases, held at the Château Borély – Musées des Arts décoratifs, de la Faïence et de la Mode and proposed by the Musées de Marseille.
Souffles – Cahiers du Cirva presents their work, displaying each vase in all its simplicity. Echoing these pieces are interviews with the finalists conducted by the exhibition curators Marie-Josée Linou (head of the Decorative Arts Department at the Musées de Marseille and head heritage curator), Anna Millers (heritage curator), and Stanislas Colodiet (director of the Cirva and heritage curator). The booklet offers insight into their thoughts on the vase as an object and their takes on design, as well as the opportunity to look at images of the research process.
The first Cahier du Cirva celebrates a new generation of designers and the revival of the Cahiers series—a collection first created in 1987 as an archive and creative space devoted to the artists and designers in residence at the Cirva's studio in Marseille.
