The first album by the egalitarian and variable-geometry group of musicians/composers created by Hervé Boghossian, combining microtonal electric guitar, Turkish lute, hurdy-gurdy, and church organ.
The idea is to bring together a group of composer-musicians to create/compose a piece together (literally), wanting to break away from the ensemble of performers interpreting a composer's piece (commissioned or from the heritage). As its name suggests, the formation (its members) and instrumentation is different for each project, with the only constant being Hervé Boghossian, its artistic director, and his instrument, the guitar.
The Ensemble In(dé)fini does not belong to a specific musical genre but uses elements from experimental, contemporary, impro/jazz, rock, and traditional music from various regions of the world, depending on the members, instruments, and composition.
Here, it is formed by Hervé Boghossian (acoustic and electric guitar, composition, artistic direction), Owen Gardner (microtonal electric guitar, composition), Merve Salgar (tanbur, composition), and Félix Chaillou-Delecourt (hurdy-gurdy, church organ, composition).
The Ensemble In(dé)fini was created in 2022 by musician/composer Hervé Boghossian, who has been active in the field of experimental music since the 2000s.
Within the Ensemble In(dé)fini, groups of musicians/composers (rather than performers of an outside composer's work) compose a collective piece on an equal basis. The group is different for each composition, with the exception of its creator, H. B., who chooses the musicians and instruments.
