Nature and the seasons have been a recurring topic throughout art history. The exhibition Through the Seasons at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in Norway, and this accompanying catalogue, utilise the four seasons as a thematic underpinning to present a rich selection of Norwegian and international contemporary art from the Christen Sveaas Art Foundation.
The presentation of the Foundation's collection is a continuation of Henie Onstad's long tradition of exploring and celebrating the idiosyncratic nature and inner logic of private collections with a fresh eye and in a new context. The exhibition has been curated by Lydia Yee, an independent curator and art historian with extensive experience from chief curator positions at Whitechapel Gallery, the Barbican Centre and the Bronx Museum. Contributing essays by William Flatmo, Director of the Christen Sveaas Art Foundation, Lydia Yee, and art historian MaryAnne Stevens, give insight to the history of the collection, the curatorial view, and a historical depth to the seasonal painting in Norwegian art, respectively.
