Colin Roche

Colin Roche (born 1974) is a French composer. With a characteristically sensitive approach, Colin Roche's musicality unashamedly tends towards fragility. Each work is the fruit of a visual reflection, manifesting itself through an instrumental device. Details of time, things and events are obsessional.
A trained pianist and a graduate of Sciences Po, Colin Roche then went on to win two French conservatoire gold medals in Musical Culture and Composition. In addition, he holds a Master's degree in composition and a D.E.A. (DPhil) in musicology. He has been a student of Philippe Leroux, Brian Ferneyhough and Luca Francesconi. His works have been premiered internationally, by organisations such as the Ensemble intercontemporain, the Centre Pompidou, Radio France, the Printemps des Arts of Monte Carlo, the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Vassiliev Theatre, the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne of Montréal, 2e2m, the Itinéraire, Cairn, the Instant Donné... Transdisciplinary in his approach, he has worked with numerous visual artists, videographers, before his artwork, Le Registre, was exhibited from March 2019 onwards at the MAC VAL and in various galleries in France, Germany and Russia. A laureate of the Académie des Beaux-Arts and of the Beaumarchais Foundation, he was awarded the Symphonic Music Grand Prize at the SACEM Competition in 2018 (Young Composer).
