50 ans d'acousmatique (15 CD + booklet box set)

François Bayle - 50 ans d\'acousmatique (15 CD + booklet box set)
François Bayle's luxurious, monumental retrospective box set: 15 CDs covering half a century (1963-2012) of acousmatic creation, accompanied by a 160-page book with various texts, a 2012 interview with Thomas Baumgartner, presentation and annotated catalog of works by Régis Renouard Larivière, and photographs.
François Bayle's itinerary spans over five decades through which music was able to renovate its material through a sensible use of technology. The terms of Musique Concrète, Electroacoustics or Acousmatics, as conveniently proposed by François Bayle, ultimately explore a similar artistic approach: a creative and expressive work on recorded sound. This last half-century saw many major technical mutations and François Bayle – in the fertile context of the Grm – seized the right opportunities, often initiating them through his function as director, so as to renovate and update creativity to serve what he called the Light Speed Sound. The fifty opuses in this box set are all markers or beacons illuminating this musical adventure firmly placed under the sign of modernity. Listening through them with a curious and active ear is also a way of witnessing how utopia can occur; how yesterday's strange sounds are now fully part of our audible landscape.

Reissue of the box set first released in 2012.
François Bayle (born 1932 in Tamatave, Madagascar) studied with Stockhausen and Messiaen. He joined the ORTF Groupe de Musique Concrète in 1960. He later led the group when it became the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in 1966. Most of his compositions are electronic, and his first important work, "Espaces inhabitables" (1967) is suggestive of an imaginary world in which nature is distorted in a dream-like fashion. He later utilized natural and synthetic sounds in his compositions, such as the recorded sounds made in a Lebanese cave. He has stated that his purpose as a composer is to enable the listener to feel the motion and vibration of energy in the universe.
