Frac Franche-Comté

Since the 1980s the editorial policy of the Franche-Comté Frac regional contemporary art fund has revolved mainly around its exhibitions; as such, solo- and jointly-published catalogues of monographic and group exhibitions, most of which are still available (directly from the Frac), chart over twenty years of arts programmes. Since 2010, the Frac's editorial brief has expanded with new series that reflect two of the Frac's fundamental missions—namely, to support and disseminate artistic creation.
The Conférences (Conferences) series provides a thorough analysis of artworks from the Frac's collection. In each volume a specialist (historian, critic, researcher) offers an exploration of a particular work.
The Abécédaires (Alphabet) series is an editorial offering available to artists represented in the collection or linked to the Frac's arts programme. They agree to comply with the constraints imposed by a given genre but are free to choose their modes of expression (texts, drawings, images, etc.).
Each year the Sound Houses series brings out a vinyl offering or publication related to sound art (sound poetry, visual arts, experimental music and cinema). This collection is part of a wider area of intermedia research dedicated to the practices and cultural range of sound art that has been on offer at the Frac since 2011 through its exhibition scheduling and documentation and archive centre.
The Conversation series, established in 2014, aims to transcribe a discussion conducted publicly between an artist featured in the Frac collections and the guest of his/her choice. As in the Conferences series, the Conversation offers a critical and reflective examination of an artist's oeuvre in its entirety.
