Étienne Bossut -
An overview and perspective of the different aspects of Etienne Bossut's practice.
Produced on the occasion of the exhibitions that have followed one another over the last three years, this monographic book devoted to the work of Etienne Bossut, conceived in close collaboration with the graphic designer Elamine Maecha, finds its originality in a form close to the practice of the artist, who, since the end of the 1970s, has taken hold of manufactured objects of all kinds to mold them and to produce sculptures whose devices never lack inventiveness.
This book documents a large part of the work of Etienne Bossut, offering also the perspective of discovering how the same works can be inscribed differently in the places and contexts that the invitations made to the artist.
It also offers a perspective on his latest research, which includes sculptures made up of fragments that they associate, revisiting the question of the base.
An essay by Julie Crenn and a double interview conducted between Etienne Bossut and Hervé Bize, exactly twenty years apart, are inserted into a large iconography that emphasizes the role of colour within the artist's approach.
The book comes with two different covers (red and green), randomly distributed.
Since the end of the 1970's, Étienne Bossut (born 1946) has placed a means of production based on making casts at the heart of his work. This is a process of movement which transmits a global reflection about art and sculpture in particular. Étienne Bossut makes casts with coloured resins, using objects taken from both daily life and art: cars, records, skis, garden chairs, monochrome paintings, staging everyday life, as well as the flaws of our represen- tations, as a means of intensifying reality.
