Quatre motifs pour coudières et genouillères

Stéphane Le Mercier - Quatre motifs pour coudières et genouillères
A series of four geometrical and minimalist patterns drawn in red, blue, and black, inspired by a cognitive ability test, a quote from Guy Debord and the publications of Fluxus artist Emmett Williams. This artist's book is printed on light paper sheets so the patterns can be traced and used as a decoration for elbow pads and knee pads.
Stéphane Le Mercier (born 1964 in Saint-Brieuc, France, lives and works in Marseille) comes from a generation of artists whose neo-conceptual approaches became prominent in the 1990s. He quickly lived abroad (Hungary, Ireland, Germany), which prompted him to reflect on the economy of signs and on the use of language within globalised culture. By opposing disparate elements (textual found objects and abstract painting, minimalist sculpture and typographical elements), his aim is to bring out "polyglot narratives".
