Forests, Gardens and Joe's

Amy O\'Neill - Forests, Gardens and Joe\'s
New monograph / artist's book, with a newly commissioned essay by Bob Nickas.
Mixing and matching an abandoned Story Book Forest, historical Victory Gardens and a bar called Joe's, in this artist's book Amy O'Neill unfurls middle-American stories to create a feral landscape in which childhood memories rule. The project is designed by O'Neill for the Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris.
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at Centre culturel suisse, Paris, from May to July 2011.
Born 1971 in Beaver (USA), Amy O'Neill lives and works in Geneva and Brooklyn. She uses the strangeness of her own culture as well as the Swiss culture where she lived and worked for some years. She copies situations and objects from local folklore to reveal the uncanny that lies just beyond the banal. Each time reality is rebuilt as a background. All her works exploit the idea of the vernacular, but in particular the idea of standard representation.
