Gerard & Kelly - Ruins
A presentation of video installations, sculptures, site-specific interventions, performance and works on paper by the duo of Californian artists and choreographers.
Gerard & Kelly—artists originating in the field of choreography—have developed their work around a series of performances and films in which they examine architectural projects that thwart traditional bourgeois and patriarchal usage, making visible the unknown stories and situations of the icons that surround us. This book documents the duo's first museum survey exhibition at Carré d'art—Musée d'art contemporain de Nîmes, evocatively titled Ruins: a presentation of video installations, sculptures, site-specific interventions, performance and works on paper.
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at Carré d'art, Nîmes, in 2022-2023.
Gerard & Kelly is an American duo formed by artists and choreographers Brennan Gerard and Ryan Kelly in 2003. Influenced by minimalist dance, institutional critique and queer theory, Gerard & Kelly develop a work at the border of dance and contemporary art, which integrates writing, video or sculpture. They were Van Lier Fellows of the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program before attending the Interdisciplinary Studio at UCLA. Gerard & Kelly participated in the 2014 Made in L.A. Biennial and the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial. Their work is included in the collections of Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art; FRAC Franche-Comté, Besançon; and Carré d'Art, Nîmes.
