Cet ouvrage collectif explore la notion d'anthropologie du rythme au sein de Que viva Mexico! de Sergei Eisenstein, tout en étendant son analyse à d'autres projets inachevés du cinéaste russe, tels Le Pré de Béjine et Le Grand canal de Fergana. La publication s'appuie sur un ensemble d'archives, dont des dessins et des journaux de travail inédits, ainsi que des séquences de films.
Publié à l'occasion de l'exposition éponyme à la Fondation Nomas, Rome, du 20 septembre 2017 au 19 janvier 2018.
Sergueï Mikhaïlovitch Eisenstein (1898-1948), décorateur puis metteur en scène de théâtre (1920-1924) et d'opéra (en 1939), cinéaste (depuis 1924 : cinq films achevés, trois inachevés ou interrompus, une dizaine à l'état de projets parfois commencés puis abandonnés), dessinateur prolifique, enseignant, auteur de nombreux manifestes, articles et conférences, a laissé à sa mort une dizaine d'ouvrages en chantier.
