Ancient Light and the Blackcore was originally published in 1995 as part of Sub Rosa's “Utopian Diaries” series. It gathers 5 tracks of hallucinatory music and extraordinary recordings of shamanic ceremony from the Yanomami communauty. Includes the text Subworld by David Toop. First vinyl issue.
Third record of a thematic series of 9, published from 1993 to 1998, called Utopian Diaries: Ancient Light and the Blackcore (1995). Never released before as LP vinyl. Contains only unreleased and exclusive material. It begins with Scorn at his best, Naked Sun with M.J. Harris (Lull, Painkiller) & N.J. Bullen. Followed 3 new tracks by Seefeel (As if, As track & As well) recorded during the sessions of Seccour. Why are you there? the large track by Timothy Leary (voices) & DJ Cheb i Sabbah (production) is a fascinating hallucinatory piece. At the end of the LP, extraordinary recordings of an intoxicated and painful ceremony of some Amazonian Shamans—recorded by David Toop in the rainforest of Southern Venezuela (communauty of Yanomami) in november 1978. Insert includes an important text written by David Toop: “Subworld”.
Seefeel is an English electronic music band founded in 1992 by Mark Clifford, Mark Van Hoen, Justin Fletcher, and Sarah Peacock.
Scorn is an influential and pioneer English electronic, industrial and experimental music band founded in 1991 by Mick Harris and Nic Bullen (Napalm Death), having evolved over the course of a dozen albums conceived by Mick Harris as a solo act from 1995 onwards to a dark and hypnotic music marked by the power of minimalist and repetitive rhythms, the depth of the bass and the darkness of the atmospheres.
American psychologist and writer Timothy Leary (1920-1996) is a leading figure of the 1960s counterculture and culture of psychedelic drugs, notably LSD.
Born near London in 1949, David Toop is a musician, writer and sound curator. He has published three books, numerous solo albums since his first album released on Brian Eno's Obscure label in 1975, curated five CD compilations, composed the soundtrack for an outdoor spectacular under Lisbon Expo '98, recorded shamanistic ceremonies in Amazonas. He worked with musicians including Brian Eno, John Zorn, Prince Far I, Jon Hassell, Derek Bailey, Talvin Singh, Evan Parker, Max Eastley, Scanner, Ivor Cutler, Haruomi Hosono, Jin Hi Kim and Bill Laswell, and collaborated with artists from many other disciplines, including theatre director/actor Steven Berkoff, Japanese Butoh dancer Mitsutaka Ishii, sound poet Bob Cobbing, visual artist John Latham, filmmaker Jae-eun Choi and author Jeff Noon.
As a critic and columnist he has written for many publications, including The Wire, The Face, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Arena, Vogue, Spin, GQ, Bookforum, Urb, Black Book, The New York Times and The Village Voice.
