1965-2017 Beatriz González - 1965-2017
Catalogue celebrating the first European retrospective of Beatriz González: the publication explores 50 years of plural and polymorphic work, inspired by the historical and cultural realities of Colombia. It features a rich selection of images and a critical apparatus which explores the artist's career while revealing the contemporaneity of her work.
Beatriz González is an emblematic and fundamental artist from the Latin American art scene who has left a mark on generations of artists and thinkers. Her work pushes the boundaries of painting by expanding the media employed and bringing together history, politics, humour, the private, and the public.
On the occasion of the first European retrospective of the artist Beatriz González, the CAPC musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia of Madrid and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art are publishing a comprehensive catalogue dedicated to the Colombian artist. The book will take stock of more than fifty years of creation through a rich selection of images of the artist's work from the beginning of her production until today. Examining the artist's plural and polymorphic work, the book will address the artist's theoretical fundamentals and most current questions by bringing together a critical apparatus made up of previously unpublished reflections and a foundational text by national and international specialists.
Published on the occasion of the first European retrospective of the artist at the CAPC musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux, from November 23, 2017, to February 25, 2018; at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, from March 22 to September 2, 2018; and at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin in 2018.
