Publication dedicated to Noël Dolla's pictorial experiments in nature: this lesser-known side to the artist's work offers a unique insight today on the painter's research on the medium. The book features a chronological documentation exploring in detail these 13 “Spatial Restructurings”, along with texts by Fabrice Flahutez and Rachel Stella.
This book is dedicated entirely to Noël Dolla's pictorial experiments in nature and with natural elements. Many of the documents here are being published for the first time: the artist never intended for the images of his ephemeral artworks to serve as more than memories imperfect and incomplete traces of moments shared and lived together. This lesser-known side to Noël Dolla's work offers a unique insight today on the painter's continuously shifting oeuvre.
In 2015, the book Entrance free but not required established an echo chamber resonating with nearly all of Noël Dolla's pictorial research. Now we have chosen to focus on his “restructurations spatiales”: a kind of album of souvenirs revived, destabilized or re-contextualized through the counterpoint of the artist's own words, accompanied by texts from Fabrice Flahutez and Rachel Stella who draw reflexive lines, placing his research in the larger perspective of art history.
Associated with the artistic movement Supports/Surfaces, Noël Dolla (born 1945 in Nice, where he lives and works) has been trying for thirty years to answer the question of painting and especially abstract painting.
