First monograph by French painter Gaël Davrinche: an exhaustive journey through the artist's young career, punctuated with a photographic reportage in his studio. An interview by P. Nicolas Ledoux and a foreword by Richard Leydier complete this edition.
Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Gaël Davrinche (born 1971 in Saint-Mande, lives and works in Montreuil, France) works mainly painting but also sculpture. His series Les (re)visités reinterpret the great paintings of classical painting with childlike candor while having the control of the painter. He appropriates these paintings, plays with the history of art and questions the relation subject / painting. Aware that, in the digital and new media era, painting has almost become obsolete, Gaël Davrinche plays with it. His series Portraits et accessoires interrogates social behavior through accessorized portraits while it gives relevance to the genre of painting. All of his work revolves around the quest of the father, the guide, the transients related to education, the exemplary and the emancipation.
