This collective work aims to demonstrate the relevance of today's popular music in contemporary political action through eight international case studies.
The twenty-first century musical scenes are deploying original organizational practices and tactics, giving a special impetus to political action. The countless collaborations and mediations governing their production and their reception, the malleability of their forms—and even the stigma that may still be affecting them—are the breeding ground of a both cultural, social and emotional praxis.
Coming from various scientific backgrounds, the eight international case studies gathered here are dealing with the different forms of relationships between political mobilization and popular music in Europe, the US, Japan and Iran: Musician's Union struggles, organization and politicization of local music scenes in a globalized environment, long-term mobilization and occasional social movements...
