What is the moon?

Rodrigo Hernández - What is the moon?
Artist's book.
This publication includes contributions by artists, writers and curators who were asked to submit a text or image free of any formal provision. These contributions are presented in dialogue with Rodrigo's drawings, stories, dreams, sketches for sculptures and collected quotes. The thread connecting these different fragments is elusive and demands a certain playful willingness from the reader. The result is a composition of words and images that explores concepts such as perception, authorship, message, imagination, ambiguity and representation; close to the ventures of Dada publishing experiments.
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht from September 2014 to January 2015.

Contributions by Ana Navas, Olivia Dunbar, Paula van den Bosch, Daniel Garza Usabiaga, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Jo-ey Tang, Taocheng Wang, Rita Ponce de León, Emiliano Valdés, Thomas Geiger.
Born 1983 in Mexico City, Rodrigo Hernández lives and works between Maastricht and Mexico City. His production is based on drawings, objects and sculptures that are later integrated into installations. The beginning of every project is a rather simple image or idea—for example, the moment when a man finds his reflection on a glass door. From there he develops a research that normally brings him back to three recurrent subjects, here broadly named: surrealism, visual perception and literature. These installations are an attempt to create a space for concentration, or as visual puzzles that trace paths for possible personal narratives.
Texts by René Magritte, Kenya Hara, Haruki Murakami.

Graphic design by Santiago da Silva.
