Nattdett (vinyl LP)

Andrea Taeggi - Nattdett (vinyl LP)
Berlin-based, Italian-born sound artist Andrea Taeggi introduces his debut release on Hands in the Dark records, an album showcasing six mesmerizing and rhythmically intricate electronic compositions.
Drawing inspiration from previous works such as Mama Matrix Most Mysterious (2015), Batch 0006 (2017), and Zimní Král (2018), Taeggi delves further into his exploration of cyclical patterns and tension-filled compositions within his creative process.
The album's tracks focus on unsettling atmospheres, unusual rhythms and percussive tones, using a vast array of rare equipment, including the analog computer from the Willem-Twee synthesis studio in the Netherlands, initially employed for flight simulation in the Cold War-era. Nattdett eloquently showcases Taeggi's talent in transmuting the essence of vintage machinery into a compelling primal language, offering an immersive and mind-expanding listening journey.
Andrea Taeggi (born 1982 in Bergamo, Italy) works in Berlin as a composer, live performer and electronic music producer. Beside his practice under his real name, he operates as 5HT2 and formerly as Gondwana. He's also known for his work with Lumisokea (Opal Tapes, Alter, Eat Concrete). Altogether, he has (co) written over 20 albums, published on different media such as vinyl, cassette, dubplate and digital, via labels Mille Plateaux/Force inc. (DE), Opal Tapes (UK), Type (USA), OOH-Sounds (IT), SM-LL (UK), Präsens Editionen (CH), Syncopathic Recordings (AT).
His research and interest include the physicality of sound, its tactile quality and implied 3 dimensionality, the gray area between acoustic & electronic sources, sacred-geometry-rhythms, novelty instruments, the "wholly other", the disassociative & hypnotic power of repetition, the alchemical dream, self-irony, special-interest objects, the fictionality of recorded audio, its non-referential aspects and the attempt to stretch the cultural borders of (traditional) music instruments.
Andrea Taeggi is a graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatoire, where he completed a Bachelor in piano and an electronic music program (Bmus). During his years in Holland he had the chance to dive headlong into free-jazz and non-idiomatic improvisation, then gradually transitioning to electro-acoustic & electronic music, before moving to Berlin. Nowadays he feels most at ease in the territory of composed music, although the elements of surprise and impromptu still play a big role both in his compositional and performative practices. In other words, he can be best described as a performer and re-worker of his own studio material.
